A Basic Timeline for the College Admissions Process

College admissions are not as daunting as they might seem if you plan ahead. There are a few basic steps that should be followed and will benefit students no matter what college they plan to attend or whether they change their minds at the last minute, as our teenagers have been known to do.

Don’t Ignore These 4 Homeschool Roadblocks!

There are some common traps that homeschool families need to be on the lookout for in order to ensure that they meet goals with integrity, value, and purpose. Avoiding these traps will also ensure their students have easy access to post-high school options.

Math Is Too Hard!

Most homeschool families have at least one student who either doesn’t like math or finds it more challenging. It’s just “one of those things.” Unfortunately, math skills are such a source of contention, both for parents and students that we often just toss our hands up and think that there isn’t going to be an answer to our woes in this area.

Getting Rid of the Grumbles in Homeschooling

If you are a parent to more than one child, then you will readily agree that each of our children is very different. They may have similar looks or traits, but in the end, each is unique and has different learning styles that they prefer.

Teachable Moments Through A Family Movie Night

I’ve found that one of the most fun ways to plan for “accidental” teaching moments with my kids is by having a family movie night. You might think that a family movie night would just end up with no one doing any talking, but that’s not the case at all. Our family has made a tradition out of watching movies together, and we’ve even come up with a game that has been lots of fun for all of our children, is great to play anywhere, and leads to some great parenting moments where we can easily and without lecturing, introduce our children to life issues and offer instruction for them on a variety of topics.

“Silly 7″ Study Strategies

How are numbers silly, you might ask? Actually they’re not, but we can have fun with them to learn new things if we try.

Speed Reading and True Comprehension

Preparing our homeschool students for later life will include training them in a variety of skills in addition to teaching the basic core subjects in an educational sense.
